Groceries in the Abacos

We supported the local groceries as best we could during our most recent trip to Green Turtle Cay in July of 2021. But, we wanted to see the variety and costs of groceries at the biggest store in the Abacos, Maxwell’s. So, we began our mission with a ferry ride from GTC to Great Abaco.

Side note: You often hear this ferry called the Bolo which refers to the boats’ names Bolo, Bolo II, Bolo III, etc. I’m not certain which ones are currently running. And, the ferry dock at Treasure Cay, Great Abaco is referred to as the Green Turtle Ferry. So one might say they are headed to the Green Turtle Ferry to catch the Bolo.

We were picked up by our pre-arranged rental car company (Triple J for $75) and taken just about an eighth-mile to our car. The goal of the day was to get to Marsh Harbour, walk all of the aisles in Maxwell’s and take photos of products and prices. Plus, we wanted to find Calpyso Coffee (They now have a second location on Green Turtle!)

Here are many photos up and down the aisles of Maxwell’s in Marsh Harbour. This is by no means an exhaustive list of items, just some things we knew we’d be curious about and some other items thrown in for good measure. Prices are in Bahamian dollars which matches the U.S. dollar 1 to 1. We hope this provides some insight on prices in 2021. We never did find that coffee shop!
